TOURNAMENT 2004..

Ray Parlour, Tony Adams and Steve Guppy were among the sporting celebrities who turned up in support of Junior Golf at The Sportspro Champions of the Future amateur PGA tournament. This was held at North Weald Golf Club in Essex on Sunday the 1st August 2004.

Celebrities came out of the woodwork for a lazy 9-hole round teaming up with golfing Pro’s and an array of super-charged juniors all in the name of nurturing the astonishing talent of golf’s next generation.

Major sponsors www.thedoghouse.co.uk were thrilled to be involved in a tournament that invests in, and supports the stars of the future. The success that the UK’s premier online reminder and gift service has enjoyed can be attributed to much the same approach, although their talent is their technology. They saw a synergy between their own achievements through investing in technology to drive their young business forward, and need to invest in and support these young guns in achieving their dreams.

Take young boy-wonder Carl Vincent. At the tender age of 6 years old, Carl holds the record for the youngest person to have 7 holes-in-one under his belt. He was out in full force on Sunday, finishing the course at net 7 under par.

The crowd of onlookers were kept enthralled by the display of competitions on the day including chipping, putting, closest to the pin, longest drive and penalty shoot-out competitions, as well as www.thedoghouse.co.uk’s 7-foot tall doggy mascot ‘Fetch de Bonne’ who entertained crowds with his mischievous antics while making great mates with some of the well-known competitors.

Not only was it a great day, but most importantly we found some fabulous young golfers who won sponsorship so they could continue to progress their game. Nine year old Jac Hicks won the 8-12 age group with an impressive 15 under par net score, and Thirteen year old Alex Pinsent won the older age group (13-16) with a net 6 under par. They won prizes sponsored by Oakley and Snake Eyes and continued coaching from their current pro.

The celebrity winner was ex Middlesbrough, Coventry and Norwich left-winger and Soccer AM presenter, Keith O’Neil, who scored the 1st ever goal for Ireland under Mick McCarthy. He won £1000 to be donated to a charity of his choice, which was Destination Florida, a charity that raises money to take terminally ill children on the holiday of their dreams. And for the professionals the winner was Steve Standing from Nazeing Golf Club, who won a £1000 cash prize and a week’s golfing holiday in Spain.
